When the new tax law was first revealed, many were quick to bash any negative aspects of it that they could find. To start this week off,  I wanted to give you a little more information on the tax law so you can better understand the benefits it provides and what exactly has changed.

The new tax bill is a massive document; being over 1,000 pages,  I don’t expect you to read it all, though I do want to make this clear: it’s not all bad! In fact, one of the changes is that most tax brackets went down! To see more of the new changes, check out the ROI Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and take a closer look at the following:

  • New tax brackets, pages 4-6
  • Updates on 529 plans and retirement, page 10
  • Estate Tax Exclusion, page 11

Regardless of your political views, this tax bill is for us all! If you have any questions or are in need of further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us here or give a call to the ROI Business Services at 630-855-5787.

Adequate Savings Rates

By | Advice, Dreams, Education, Finance, Food for thought, Investing, Life, Mindset, Money, Motivation, Planning, Retirement, Strategy, Technology | No Comments

“How much should I be saving for retirement? Is there a certain percentage of my income that I should be saving?”

These are questions that I am asked frequently. The answer is simple: it is different for every person. Everyone has their own unique situations, different needs for retirement life, and has different incomes. What might work for a family member might not work for you. Your savings and savings rate are based on factors in your life and your life only.

I wanted to share with you some tools that will help you to determine what your savings rate should be and how you can use that number to be on the path to reaching your goals. DreamNumber, a tool I created myself, is great for helping you to organize your savings and prepare for your future needs.

Another tool that I mention frequently (it’s so helpful!) is the CNN Money Retirement Calculator. I really like this tool because you can input your income, your age, how much you have saved thus far, and it will compute how much money you will need for your retirement. I suggest taking a look at both of these tools and reaching out to me with any questions you may have!

Have a great week everyone!

Investor Behaviors

As many of you may know, the market has certainly been in good condition recently.

Our advice: keep up with your investments and see if you are meeting your needs based on your risk tolerance. We’ve noticed that more and more people are becoming greedy with their investments and are wanting more out of them than what they really need. Take a look at your investments and your risk tolerance and remember that returns in general are great results. Don’t push your investments so far, you don’t want to get too greedy!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Right now there are some very unique things happening. In fact, some statistics we haven’t seen in many generations including this recent Cubs rally into the playoffs. That’s what this video is all about — making decisions when unique circumstances present themselves.

Offense vs. Defense

While watching some of the NCAA March Madness games I noticed some fascinating action that really gave me a strong take away I wanted to share. Specifically in the Northern Iowa vs. Texas A&M game. I’m not a big basketball guy but I get into the NCAA tourney with all the carnage that goes on with major upsets, change in leads, Cinderella stories, new heroes are born, heartbreak, and the list goes on of great stories that come out of the month of March! But this time it was like something I have never seen. A team destined for what looked like victory with only 35 seconds remaining and a 12 point lead. An 8 point lead with only 21 seconds left. It really was incredible. That’s what this video blog is all about.

Maxing Out

By | Finance, Planning, Retirement, Strategy | No Comments

Most of the time when we talk about this subject it revolves around Portillo’s and taking down an Italian beef, cheese fries and a chocolate cake shake (I’m sure many of you can relate). But today this is actually about maximizing the IRS contribution limits and the long term impact they can have towards your planning future.

Many of my clients are following this planning structure but many of you have not seen the long term impact of the path toward ‘maxing out’.

DreamNumber Tour

So…I’m a follower of Peter Diamandis and pay attention to the projects he’s constantly working on including Singularity University that he co-founded years ago. Their mission is to educate, inspire and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies to address humanity’s grand challenges. Remember my blog on the 95% retirement failure rate that American’s face today? Well…I created DreamNumber to address that grand challenge facing humanity today. Clearly at 95% failure there’s room for technology to make an improvement and show you exactly ‘How Much’, Save It, and Make Progress! I had to make this video to apply for their program in the Spring of 2016 because I want to get the ‘How Much’ information out in front of the entire population. We face BIG challenges ahead without this information. In this video I take you through my big vision and where my greatest passion lies with my work on DreamNumber! At least for today because I will be making progress with it tomorrow.

95% / 5%

Several years ago I learned of the macro numbers surrounding the amount of Americans in financial success and failure. Since then I have done a ton of research surrounding this info and today they are perhaps more relevant than ever. Why are they that way? Well…that’s the point of this video.

In this video I breakdown the top three reasons supporting the success and failure. Guess what? It’s right in line with all the topics I have been discussing the last several weeks.
